How to Participate

To participate in Portico, a library signs the Journal Archive License Agreement and makes an Annual Archive Support payment.

Initiating participation in Portico is a four step process:

Step One:

Determine your Library's Total Materials Expenditure (LME) in U.S. Dollars

Participating libraries are asked to make an Annual Archive Support payment that is based on their total library materials expenditure. Portico uses the definition of LME provided by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). To learn more about calculating your library's LME, please view Portico's Overview on LME.

International institutions should convert the LME in their local currency to USD. A currency conversion tool is available at http://www.xe.com/ucc/.

Step Two:

Determine your Library's Annual Archive Support payment.

Once your library LME has been calculated, please see the Portico Annual Archive Support payment to determine your payment.

Step Three:

Review and complete the Portico Journal Archive License.

Libraries initiating support for Portico in 2006 or 2007 are designated Portico Archive Founders. Please see Archive Founders to learn more.

Portico also offers additional savings to participating consortia. Please see Consortium Savings for further information.

Step Four:

Return two signed originals of the License to Portico.
